1878 Nov 18th

This school was formally opened this morning by Mr. J.L. Spraggon; member of the board.

With several parents present, 53 children were admitted after a short speech by Mr. Spraggon.

 Nov 20th

 Samuel Adamson and Jim Pots came to the school door late this morning, they had been playing outside.

 Nov 14th

 Admitted 3 children, but several children have gone back to Shiney Row.

 Dec 2nd

Mr. Banks visited the school today.

 Mr. McClaren vice chairman of the board called this morning.

 1879 January 30th

School board election was carried out – no contest, members Messrs Smith; McClaren; banks; Spraggon and the Rev P Thompson duly elected.

 April 8th

 The board officer called today, he says he is not empowered to call upon children living at Coxgreen in the township of Herrington.

 April 28th

 Having received complaints of children annoyance at “Wood House” throwing stones into a puddle; I have cautioned the children.

May 16th

 The members of staff are Jas Toll headmaster; Margaret Toll sewing mistress; Emily Turnbull and Elizabeth Adamson paid monitors.

 June 10th

30 children absent today, have this afternoon gone to  Mr. Robson’s funeral.

I experience great difficulty in getting satisfactory evidence of children’s births for the Childs Book, through some have brought their family bible.

 July 8th

 Thomas Robson and M.A. Robson (Coxgreen) having been attacked with scarlet fever are absent, also their bother and sister.

 1879 July 22nd

 Fred Gawthorpe and John parker were engaged in a pitched battle today. I took the occasion to show the school the prize of fighting; having dismissed the two for fighting.

 July 30th

Allowed a number of children to attend Mrs Robson’s funeral.

 August 6th

 Had to punish Catherine Raffle this morning for insubordination in the play ground.

 September 16th

 Introduced Nelson’s home lesson series to standard 1 and 11

 1880 June 29th

 Punished John George Greathead, for general misconduct and insubordination. I have had several complaints from the game keeper for trespassing.

 July 2nd

 It as been reported that several children, have been guilty of using coarse language - this is very common in Coxgreen. I have given notice to the school that all children must conduct themselves properly.

 July 22nd

Half holiday regatta at Coxgreen.

 1881 July 28th

John Todd (standard V1) applied for Childs Book wishing to go to work, this is the first application I have had for Child’s Book.

 1888 February 10th

 The school board election on Friday last resulted in the selection of

 M.P. Applegarth; Jno Tate; M. Steward; N. Davison; M.Haddock.
