Working the Maudlin seam to a depth of 115 fathoms, the coal was four feet and six inches in thickness. The output a day in 1894 was 700 tons a day, employing 590 men and boys.
The Peggy pit named after Nesham daughter was opened approx 1774 closing in the 1920's it was used as a ventilation shaft for the Dolly and later for the Herrington Colliery. it was in the group known as the "Newbottle Colliery"
